Outstanding Commentary on Revelation
This book is an outstanding commentary on the book of Revelation by a talented and knowledgeable author. This is a historical-critical exegesis of the book of Revelation. I found it thorough and remarkable. A must-read for anyone interested in the apocolyptic literature of the New Testament.

The Fate of Reason: German Philosophy from Kant to Fichte
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (December, 1987)
Author: Frederick C. Beiser
Average review score:

Endgames
The cultural context in which Kant's Critique of Pure Reason appeared was a complex and volatile mixture that responded to his work in a prolonged period of philosophical fireworks culminating in Hegel. This extremely interesting history of the first decade of reactions to Kant foretells in many ways the whole fate of modern philosophy, beginning with the first delayed review and then the attacks and challenges from Rheinhold to Jacobi and Maimon. One must wonder if this debate advanced beyond or frittered away the Kantian advance, as the outcome seems so very much to produce the reversal of original intent. Yet the issues raised by these critics are essential to consider, and often fail to appear in purely partisan accounts. The history stops before even Fichte and yet zooming in on this curious scene in detail brings alive the real issues that will echo all the way to Schopenhauer, and beyond.
It is, presumably, a quibble to point out that the word 'fate' is severely cautioned at the begining of Kant's deduction. One should wonder at its usage here. Perhaps this comedy of sudden philosophical raining cats and dogs ambushing Kant is a tragic fate in search of tragicomedy.

Fichte: Foundations of Natural Right
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (December, 2000)
Authors: J. G. Fichte, Frederick Neuhouser, and Michael Baur
Average review score:

A fascinating exploration of freedom and community
This work is an impressive attempt to establish the philosophical foundations of a modern, liberal political system--that is, a community of free beings who grant each other mutual recognition and rights. Fichte's particular political theories (including the notion of an "ephorate" and his disappointingly traditional views on women and marriage) are mostly of historical interest, but his initial analyses of "the I," of freedom, and of the concept of right are some of the best statements of his general philosophical position. His prose is often awkward and frustrating, but the passion and seriousness of his thought makes the book engrossing reading nevertheless. Michael Baur's translation is careful, and Frederick Neuhouser's introduction and notes are very helpful.

The Fifth Element: Taking Business into the Next Dimension
Published in Paperback by Synergetic Inc. (23 July, 2002)
Author: Susan Frederick
Average review score:

It's about time!!!
Having read her first book "Consumer Power," I was hungry for more of Susan Frederick's direct, easy to grasp, down to business coaching. In The Fifth Element, she expands on the concepts in "Consumer Power" and adds a powerful new twist. What would it be like if, instead of companies ruling the marketplace--consumers became the company? What if consuming became a bridge to financial freedom? Except for Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad series, I haven't read anything as intriguing and practical for the everyday person in a long time. This is an opportunity we can all take advantage of. She calls it a "consumer revolution." I say, "It's about time!!"

Fingers Pointing Toward the Sacred: A Twentieth Century Pilgrimage on the Eastern and Western Way
Published in Paperback by Beacon Point Pr (01 October, 1994)
Author: Frederick Franck
Average review score:

This Book Helped Me...
... when I was in a place of spiritual searching. This book is essentially a travelogue of one man's spiritual quest, and is fascinating as much for it's insight into the various cultures encountered as it is for it's ecumenical perspective on religion and spiritual practice.

As Franck enters into dialogue with a spiritual teacher representative of a particular culture, he shares with you his drawings of everyday life, statues, and expansive city vistas of the various locales. His drawing are excellent, sometimes sparse, sometimes rough and coarse, but always revelatory and honest. I love this book as much for the drawings as anything else.

This book will be helpful if you are an open minded spiritual seeker, maybe even a little lost along the way, as you search for spiritual truth in this world. Dogmatics and fundamentalists of any religion, better to leave this one alone.

Average review score:

The First and Second Epistles to the Thessalonians (NICNT)
Morris' exegetical work is phenomenal! He paints vivid pictures of not only the Thessalonians themselves, but also the extent of Paul's thoughts and devotion toward these young and dynamic believers. This commentary proved not only useful and thought provoking, but accessible and lucid. Every serious student of the scriptures must attain a copy. Morris has once again hit a grand-slam.

The Foot of the Cross: The Sorrows of Mary
Published in Paperback by Tan Books & Publishers, Inc. (June, 1978)
Author: Frederick W. Faber
Average review score:

Review from the Publisher
Father Faber plumbs to the depths the meaning of Our Lady's Seven Sorrows. Each one is described and analyzed with the precision of a theologian and the artistry of a poet, inciting the reader to new tenderness toward the sorrows of Our Mother and love of her Divine Son. Father Faber says, "We never advance more rapidly in love of the Son than when we travel by the Mother, and that what we have built most solidly in Jesus has been with Mary. There is no time lost in seeking Him, if we go at once to Mary; for He is always there, always at home. He who is growing in devotion to the Mother of God is growing in all good things. His time cannot be better spent; his eternity cannot be more infallibly secured."
